Earlier this month, the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce honored 19 individuals from each township in the county for their excellence in community involvement and their contributions to the economic development of the county.

In April, we had the pleasure of hosting a really great group of kids from the Boys & Girls Club at The Heron for dinner. Paul put together a great menu for them which included some Heron favorites – Chicken Liver Mousse, Pastrami Smoked Salmon, a special dish of Shrimp & Grits, Fried Chicken, Mac & Cheese and a trio of Marla’s homemade desserts.

How did it get to be June 5th so quickly? Ezra from Eve’s Cidery dropped off their newly fermented Autumn’s Gold, Northern Spy & Beckhorn Hollow Ciders – they all pair perfectly with our food – from the Fried Chicken to the Catfish! New wines are in from our friends at Domenico Valentino – From Toscana – Il Palazzone Rosso del Palazzone, Fuili – Ronco dei Tassi ‘Fosarin’, & Piemonte – Luca Ferraris Ruche ‘Firmato’ & Sobrero Langhe Bianco Chardonnay… Come enjoy a glass on our deck overlooking the beautiful Delaware!

What is there to tell? A small-town girl with roots in restaurants moves to the big city to fulfill her fantasy of working in television. A city boy, born and raised in Detroit, goes to the Culinary Institute of America and moves to NYC, with hopes of running a restaurant of his own someday.
While they don’t know it yet, the roots of The Heron start years ago when Marla and Paul meet on the set of “Inner Chef with Marcus Samuelson”, Paul working behind the scenes as a food stylist & Sous chef & Marla working as the series producer. After years in the city talking about opening a restaurant, their dream becomes a reality, in a very unexpected place, Narrowsburg, New York. Inspired by the vast resources of the region, Marla and Paul relocate to Sullivan County with the hopes of creating a restaurant that is community driven and locally sustainable. Their goal: to provide the region with great food and a comfortable atmosphere where everyone is welcome.
